"Winterizing" Your Home

With the kids back in school and the holidays fast approaching, it can be really easy to overlook another very important “to do” for the fall season – “winterizing” your home before the cold weather arrives. Did you know that water damage poses the single greatest threat to your home?
Fall is the best time to inspect your house to ensure it is well protected. If you do find areas that need attention, schedule your repairs now while the weather is still fair. This will ensure that your home will be fully prepared for the anticipated rain, snow and ice in the winter months ahead.

Winter Preparation Checklist

• ROOF - check the condition and pay careful attention to the flashings.

• CHIMNEY
- make sure the cap is in good condition and have it cleaned if you plan to use it.

• GUTTERS & DOWNSPOUTS
- make sure they are clean and functioning properly.

• STORM WINDOWS
- make sure they are functioning properly and the weep holes are open.

• DOORS, WINDOWS, & SILLS
- check for loose caulking, peeling paint and damaged wood.

• TRIM, SIDING & SHUTTERS
- check for peeling paint and damaged wood.

Purchase at least ONE BAG OF SALT to be ready for the first snowfall of the season.

John Neill did the exterior painting
of our house. It is an older home and
the stucco had never been painted.
The workmen did an excellent job preparing the surfaces and doing the stucco and wood trim. We also
had shutters installed. They did an excellent job. We have received many compliments on the work.
